So my mom went to visit Olivia twice today and met with Dr. C. (the vet caring for her) as well as Dr. R. (our regular vet). Olivia sure must have felt everybody's love because even as early as 7:30 this morning Dr. C. reported in a phone call that she seemed very animated! We all thank you so very much.
Mom said Olivia was very chatty and lovey both times, had eaten some food and was very glad to see her. Tomorrow Olivia will be tested again to see if the treatment is working.
She's been diagnosed with renal disease and one of her kidneys is very small and probably not functioning at all. The other, though, looked good on the x-ray and Dr. C. seemed to think that perhaps she'd developed an infection. So treatment for now is antibiotics, an IV drip to flush her system and an appetite stimulant. We are all hoping that her numbers will be headed toward normal in the next round of tests.
Thank you againwe'll keep you posted.
Much love,
William & family.
We are keeping Miss Olivia in our thoughts.

Glad to hear Olivia is doing better and will be coming home soon. William, our two older siblings, Toot & Alex both had CRF and lived a LONG time with it. Our Moms gave them sub-Q fluids, which is really easy to do at home. They lived to be 22 and 23 years old! They were diagnosed when they were in their late teens. So tell your Mom not to worry, this is not a horrible diagnosis. xoxo

ReplyDeleteYour TX furiends,
Oh we are so happy to hear little Olivia is feeling better. I bet she is anxious to come home to all of you!
ReplyDeleteOne of The Kitties Who Came Before had this problem also, and he lived a very long time! For the last few years, the Human had to give him subcutaneous fluids a few times a week, but Clarkie did not mind at all. He just thought it was an extra petting session (which frankly makes me shudder to even think about, but he liked it!)
Awww, Olivia must be missing her family. Hope she is home soon.
