Yesterday we found a young mourning dove in the back yard. We thought we'd have to do a little ceremony but then my mom noticed the small dove was still breathing. We think she might be about three to four weeks old but she can't fly and doesn't know what to do with seed. Sadly, she has some hatch defects and will never be like other doves. So to ease her stress we've been giving her water and a special slurry that she ate a little bit of. And I wrote her a little haiku while I watch out for her.
fledgling dove, blind, deaf
wanders in my yard flightless
waiting for her wings
William that is so nice of you to help that birdie. Your haiku is very fitting for the situation.
ReplyDeletePoor little birdie. You are kind to help her.
ReplyDeleteJust an FYI: If you need to send her to the Birdie Bridge, holding her by the exhaust pipe of a running car will send her there quickly & painlessly.
That's very beautiful William.
ReplyDeleteWilliam, my Mom's eyes are watering.
