So my mom wishes she were a cat so she could nap next week. Or actually, not go hunting next week. Something about the first day being back having five days worth of stress rolled into one. I have no idea what that means.
Anyway, the big storm never materialized so that was good – only about an inch of snow. I watched out the window for it while helping Mom. It took most of yesterday getting everything finished up and cleaned up. And now that Mom moved all the swilly stuff into the garage, the house seems suddenly gigantic!
So the final verdict is we all love the new countertops, and the sink, especially. Except poor Eddie, who finds the new counters a little too slippery and navigating the area near the sink a little too treacherous. He likes it and all, he just has to get used to it and be extra careful.
This is perfect for my coloring.
Olivia's chickens approve too.
I love my giant new sink!
William, we love your shiny new kitchen - great job! Now could you come over and refinish our basement for us so we can open our workshop?

we love the before and after comparison pictures. your mom did a GREAT job and has excellent taste.
ReplyDeleteWe love that big sink! My mom doesn't like to go back because she says the pile of emails are normally out of this world. One week she came back and there were over 1,000!
ReplyDeleteWow...that's all very nice! I wish we had counters like that. Ours are tile and white and UGLY.
ReplyDeleteSorry your mom can't stay home for another week with you. But then it would feel like ten days of stress instead of five.
ReplyDeleteYour sink and kitchen are very cool. Can you still drink out of the faucet? Or are you not allowed up there anymore.
Wow, that white kitchen is gorgeous! I bet it goes really well with your black self.

What a beautiful new kitchen! Your Mom should be very proud of her work (of course, we know your supervision was essential for everything to work out...)

You two did a teriffic job. Jasper is right...it's all in the supervision.
ReplyDeleteYer new kitchen looks GREAT!
ReplyDeleteSa-weet! Nicely done on the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so nice and professional! I am curious about 2 things: what did you do where you took out the big bar counter, and what are the countertops made out of?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Wow!! Your mom is really handy! I wish I could have a useful mom like yours. She really wants a new counter top but she would never dare to install it herself. The new sink is beautiful!

Hi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteMom just trimmed the half-wall where the bar used to be with a nice piece of aspen. The bar was not user-friendly, and with it gone, it really opens up the kitchen and the eating area. I was going to have her paint it, but you know? I think I'd like to try my paw at some sort of mosiac thing. It pretty much is the first thing you see when you walk into my house, so I want it to reflect my personality!
The countertops are made out of laminate. We got them at Lowe's (in stock), Mom's favorite haunt.
Wow! That is a great sink! There is plenty of room for you to get drinks in there!
ReplyDeleteVery classy looking, William, and you're right. You're the prefect accessory!
ReplyDeleteWilliam - you and your Mom and aunt did a wonderful job! that sink looks perfect for sleepin' in when it gets hot out
ReplyDeleteIt's furry bea-u-ti-ful!! Moma can't wait to haf a house of her own to do that wif. We rent right now. We gots pics up of the new toy that you wanted to see.

Looks good William. But I agree, your mum needs a vacation from her vacation.
ReplyDeleteLook at all those things on the countertop just *waiting to be knocked over! But, I must say, that kitchen looks beautiful!
ReplyDeletePretty!!! Y'all did a great job. I love the countertops and the sink looks fabulous. Well done.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely looks better than the butcher block.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove that big sink, too.
Very nice.
Okay, I just scrolled down to the 'before' photos. What a difference. Wow. It looks tons bigger in there. That must have been a lot of work, but it is great.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your mom is very talented! My dad is talented too, but Mom thought that it would be too stressful if Dad did the kitchen remodel two years ago. Wrong! They hired contractors--and had more stress than if they'd done it themselves. We do admit that we really liked the addition of the "cat TV room," the big bay window in the eat-in part of the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteAren't you glad that it's over and now you can have peace and quiet?

Mom is so jealous of your pretty kitchen! I hop Eddie gets used to it soon.
