Visiting.

So today when Mom came home for lunch she saw my new friend Russell on the porch. Russell is a little blue-tail lizard. Russell's actually a girl. All these kinds of lizards are girls! We can hear her when she's out front and walking over dead leaves and stuff. That's why her name is Russell.

Anyway, Russell lives somewhere in our yard, probably way way way on the other side of the house. She's not too good in describing where so I don't know exactly. But she comes by to visit with me a lot. She's a pretty good representative for being our state reptile and all! And we can just talk right through the front door. Today I was telling her where to find all the good bugs–well, the tasty bugs–in our front garden. But I also told her, "Just don't eat any preying mantises. They're my friends. Oh, and don't eat any crickets, either, because I like to listen to them sing. And no snails, either, because they're my friends, too. And don't try to eat my pet pink flamingo, because it's not an edible pet. I kinda like bees, too, so maybe you shouldn't eat them, either. Or butterflies. I guess you could have those speckly bugs that bore into the trees and make them all sick and stuff."

I was barely finished when Russell suddenly saw Mom and ran away, even though Mom said all friendly, "Hi, Russell, how are you?" I called after her that she didn't need to be all scared, but I know she's just really really shy with everybody but me.

  1. Um...Wm...talk about being weak with hunger! You're not leaving much that poor Russell can eat. If all lizards are girls...uh...um...how do they get baby lizards?

  3. That was furry nice of you to be friendly to Russell. It's too bad she's kinda of scared of beans. I bet your Momma would tell her where some other good bugs were.

  5. Um.......Ok........William, how do you know it is a girl? Did you roll her one over and look, or does she have long eyelashes or girl slippers on, or something? Or did she tell you she is a girl? Enquiring minds want to know.

  6. I've never been to New Mexico so the only lizards I've ever seen are little green ones. How big is Russell?

  7. Oh yeah, there's tons of other bugs for Russell. I just don't want her to eat my friends. She probably doesn't need a lot of bugs anyway--she's very little, maybe four inches long, including her very long tail.

I know she's a girl because she told me they're all girls. How they get babies, I don't know. She said they just do, and without boy lizards. Maybe Kukka knows how the whole baby thing works. I'm just glad this doesn't happen with us, otherwise me and my bro and a whole bunch of us wouldn't even be here!
