Dia de los Muertos.

We hope everybody who celebrated had a happy Day of the Dead! For those who aren't familiar with this tradition, it's the day to honor and celebrate those who have gone before us. It's a festive time even though it may not seem it by the name, and not scary at all. Where we are, there are many celebrations over several days.

Our ofrenda (altar) this year had food and toys and stuff for PQ, Olivia, Eddie and Sophie's spirits as they came back to earth on this special day. (There were treats, too, but somebody thought those were for him and he kept disrupting our preparations, so we left those off.) And while my mom totally forgot to add my crows to the altar, I did get the treats!

  1. Binga would be stealing those treats too! Some kitties have no sense of decorum.

  2. That's beautiful William. I know The Kitties Who Went On Before came back to peek in on you and make sure you were all doing all right and that Caroline wasn't eating too many ears. XOXOXOX
The Human's school had a big beautiful altar too, though she was too layzee to make one for home. There are lots of celebrations in the Mission District, including a big procession to Garfield Park on Saturday night that she didn't go to either. She's sooooo O-L-D.

  3. What a wonderful way to celebrate our missing friends! Brought a tear to my eye just thinking about it.

  4. We don't have that back here in Georgia, but I've heard of it before from my friend who lives near ABQ. I have been thinking of our past pets, though.

  5. ?We don't celebrate Dia de los Muertos in the UK. It is good to have a special day to remember those who have gone before. That is a lovely altar in memory of PQ, Olivia, Eddie and Sophie.

  6. While we don't celebrate the Day of the Dead,
we do believe that the ones that came before come back to visit.
The time when "the veil is thin" according to Samhain.
