Fireworks Of Mass Destruction.

When I was a really really tiny boy, right around this time in 2003, I was abandoned with my pregnant mom and sister. In fact, the Fourth was the first day my true mom saw my cat mom and my sis hiding under a car in the heat (I was hiding somewhere else). That night there were reasonably close fireworks shows and people in the abutting park shooting off their own. It was very loud and noisy and scary, and we were all very very frightened.

Well, you know that between my mom and my Aunt M everything turned out OK for all of us. But even now, every time I hear fireworks, I remember that time and how very frightened I was. I really don't like the Fourth of July after dark.

Last night we had more than the usual amount of stupidheads with their seemingly never ending supply of illegal fireworks. This was very upsetting to me. So just for me, Mom turned up the AC for white noise and turned on the radio for some background sound, and she let all of us sleep with her. I think my sisters were relieved, too, because everybody behaved all night and we slept in a row against Mom's side, Olivia, me and Caroline, all safe.

I am so glad that's over for another year.

I think it will be quieter tonight, William.

Secret MEEZER note from Caroline to the Cat Crossings gang: Wordpress hates me and WON'T LET ME COMMENT AND I TRIED SCREAMING AT IT BUT STILL NOTHING. Just wanted you to know I tried 7 times.

  1. Oh William I am glad that you don't have to deal with fireworks outside anymore. It is so furry nice that your mum turned up the AC and the radio. Plus peaceful co-existance for at least one night a year.

  3. Fiona feels the same way William. She hops up and just burries her head into DKM until the noise is over.

  6. I am really happy that you're safe and sound now and sorry you have those bad childhood memories.

The thought of you all lined up nicely sleeping with your Momma made my Momma smile.

  7. when I hear fireworks, I start shaking and I panic. we were living under the junk car when we were 2 months old and our people trapped Cocoa and Midnight on July 3rd, but I was too scared to go in the trap then. I had to spend July 4th by myself before I got in the trap on July 5th.

  17. I'm sorry you have such bad memories that upset you so much William. It's really nice of your Mom to let you all sleep with her!

Apparently none of us are scared of the the noise, which really surprises my Mom every year. We aren't allowed outside even when it's not loud, though, and we're kind of used to a lot of loud noises in our neighborhood.

This is Jemima commenting for Tiger Lily because she's kind of sick. She had to go to the v-e-t and get some medicine today and we hope she's better soon.

  19. Me & Spot don't like the fireworks either. Spot hides in the basement and I cuddle Mom & Dad. But the funny thing is that the two outside kitties that visit us now don't seem to be bothered by them. Give your mom an extra nuzzle from me!
