Excitement.

First off, we all hope that everybody in Poiland is safe. We know they're in O'ahu and Mom said the big island got the brunt of the quake, but we're thinking of them just the same.

So we all know my sis Olivia is pretty weird. Well, for the last few weeks Olivia has followed Mom to the back door every time Mom's gone out to feed my birds or water plants and stuff. Mom noticed that Olivia had a particular attraction to a spider web that was between the storm door and the regular door. In fact, once she saw Olivia eating the web! She shooed Olivia away and then began closing the door whenever she went out on the patio.

Well, Mom never saw any spider until this weekend, when she thought she should probably brush the web away and sweep out the door well. The spider was hiding in a channel around the storm door, and when Mom opened the door wide, the spider thought she had dinner and came out. Mom saw she was a black widow! Mom was amazed because she'd never seen one before.

Anyway, Mom says Olivia is very lucky that the black widow didn't mind her biting on her web, because black widows are 15 times more poisonous than rattlesnakes. But Olivia said the spider was her friend. She didn't even blame her kangaroo! She made Mom promise just to make the black widow move because really, black widows are pretty shy and only bite when provoked. Plus, they eat all kinds of icky bugs, which is a good thing. And besides, Olivia said, the web was sticky like cotton candy and very tasty!

Told you Olivia was weird.

  1. Thank goodness your mom found the black widow! That's one of my mom's greatest fears for us cats!

  2. Yikes, we saw quite a few black widows when we lived in North Carolina but like you, fortunately no one was ever bit.
